Coinbase is a multi-purpose platform, where you can hold crypto assets, build financial investment portfolios, and also make sports predictions. A fully CFTC-regulated company, Coinbase launched its prediction market early in 2026, and is partnered with Kalshi. Coinbase is quite an intriguing prediction market, it has a divided user base, with some claiming that the prediction market offers good value and others avoiding it and using Coinbase as a crypto exchange only. Here, we will clarify some of that feedback and give you a good idea of what you can get at Coinbase.

Sign Up to Coinbase
Coinbase is available in all 50 states, and the crypto exchange, financial investment products and prediction market are all offered in the same app. You sign up at Coinbase, creating 1 account and you can access these. When signing up, you have to provide some personal information, and then complete the KYC to be eligible to make deposits and claim your welcome bonus.
Welcome Bonus: Get Up To $2,000
After confirming your personal details, including submitting your SSN, your account will be all set up. You can make your first deposit, and to claim the welcome bonus, you have to make a deposit of $50+. This is a steep minimum deposit bonus, which we felt was excessively high.
Then, you have to make a single first purchase of $50+, and then you will receive a random reward in BTC, from $10 up to $2,000. Coinbase states that 99% of new users get somewhere between $10 and $100 in BTC, and only 1% of users get $1,000 to $2,000.
This is really not the best offer we have come across, it flashes a large $2k in BTC, but has a high $50 entry level to claim, and there is a high chance you will just get something between $10 and $100. It feels more like a casino game than a proper welcome bonus.
How Coinbase Works
You top up your account, and then you can make trades either in USD or USDC. The crypto provisions are a welcome addition, and Coinbase has easy wallet management, so you can convert currencies and set limits where needed. Onto the prediction markets, Coinbase covers a huge expanse of sports and non-sports events. Among the latter, you get politics, crypto, entertainment, economics, weather, financial and also social events. Coinbase goes above and beyond with its offering, and there is plenty of liquidity so you can spread your bets.
Sports Coverage
Coinbase has 20+ sports categories, which is very impressive and beats quite a lot of its competition. There are niche sports such as eSports, cricket, volleyball and rugby, and you also get ample coverage of the main US sports. Games in the NFL, NBA, MLB, top soccer leagues, PGA golf and ATP/WTA tennis tournaments have deep markets. For bigger events, this spans to player props, alternate game lines, and even partial game events, such as quarters, halves or periods.
The market volume is also nice and high, so you won’t struggle to find liquidity for the more niche player props. Coinbase also does live game coverage and has a plethora of futures, which definitely come in handy.
Combo Trades and Cashouts
Coinbase has a Request For Quote feature, through which you can create personalised combo trades – the trading equivalent of parlay bets. Simply add legs to your trade slip, and then click on the RFQ to ask for a parlay-style bet price. You can go up to 10 legs in a combo, and we didn’t experience many limits here – apart from obvious overlapping markets such as moneylines with spreads.
Just like with singles, you can buy these contracts and then sell them early – the equivalent of cashing out at a prediction market. Although, with combos you have to be more careful as you can only cash out if all the legs are active, after 1 has settled, the cash out will not be available.
Fee Schedule
Now this is one of the areas where most users had problems with, and we also felt it was not very fair. Coinbase does charge fees for event contracts, but there is no information about this in its terms and conditions nor in their help center. The customer support even told us that the fees are “displayed on the order confirmation page”. So Coinbase doesn’t give you a point of reference for its fees, you only see these when you are buying a contract, or selling an active order.
The fees are not clear, and we didn’t experience consistency in the prices of the contracts, something which we also saw in user feedback. This makes it hard to calculate trading value, and we found user reviews claiming that Coinbase’s unreliable fees also create problems for cashing out ongoing contracts.

Funding your account at Coinbase is straightforward, and Coinbase recognises all major US bank cards. You have to verify your Coinbase account first, and then you can link a payment method, fill out the deposit form, verify the transaction and the funds should hit your account instantly.

Coinbase has an AI-powered help center, where you can get swift and concise responses to your queries. We found it to be quite handy, but it only goes as far as general questions, for more specific queries you can use the live chat, or you can request a call. The chat uses a virtual assistant, which answers basic questions but can also be used to find out more about your question, and then connect you to the relevant live agent should you need their help.

Sports coverage is a key strength at Coinbase, it sets a high bar for competitors. But there are alternative prediction markets with similarly vast selections of markets, with large market liquidity, and even parlay-combining options. The best for those three boxes is Kalshi, which powers the markets at Coinbase. Another is OG.com, a newer platform that has slighlty less market volume, but the portfolio of markets is comparable, and OG also has a throng of rewards to amplify the experience.
Polymarket is also a viable option, but the combo building also uses a Request for Quote order. Moving on, we could also recommend the sweepstakes-turned-prediction market platforms, Novig and ProphetX. Both have a strong depth of markets, with Novig standing out for its early payout and loyalty rewards, whereas ProphetX has more extensive market data for value traders. Finally, to give you a full spectrum of alternatives, we can also point you towards Plus500. It too has trading functions like Coinbase, and an integrated prediction market. While Plus500 doesn’t have the combo options or the same depth of sports markets, it does have very reliable, and low, fees on trades, which makes it a more viable option for value trading.
Our Verdict
Coinbase definitely ticks all the boxes with its widespread sports categories, extensive market depth, and combo trading options, and it is one of the rare platforms where you can buy trades with crypto or USD. That market depth, with partial game derivatives and niche props, are a rarity among prediction markets.
The one big snag that we didn’t like was the unreliable fee schedule, which really brought down Coinbase’s rating in our eyes. Hopefully, it is an area they will clarify and standardize in the near future.
This platform is perhaps best suited to sports fans who want to trade cryptocurrencies and dabble in some predictions on the side. It has expansive market depth, but as you can read above in the Related Reviews, there are platforms with similarly comprehensive coverage and parlay building options.
